Our Sealing division covers the development and maintenance of both rural and central roads across New Zealand. Due to a booming work schedule, we require experienced Forepersons to step in and lead our Chipsealing crew in Taupo.

What does a Chipsealing Foreperson do at Downer?

You will lead your crew to complete construction and resurfacing works on roads across the Central North region. Supervise and manage Chipsealing crews whilst they conduct civil infrastructure chipsealing activities. Be involved in the planning, organising and directing of crews, ensuring that work is completed safely, on time and meeting our customers’ expectations.

As much of our work is seasonal, this role is offered as an annualized salary agreement. This is where you’d be contracted to work a set number of guaranteed hours per year, with the bulk of the hours covered through the warmer months. This gives you a bit of paid downtime in the Winter to focus on other things, what a dream!

About you:
With demonstrated experience supervising teams and subcontractors across a range of civil or road sealing work, you will feel right at home in our fast paced and highly compliant environment. You will be a confident communicator who’s able to give clear instructions and provide on the job training to your team members. We’d also value:

  • A Class 2 drivers licence with a WTR endorsement is beneficial

  • Strong planning and organisational skills

  • A positive and solutions focused attitude

  • Flexibility to flow to work peaks throughout the year

  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with unexpected events whilst provide direction.
