About Cycling New Zealand:

Cycling New Zealand (CNZ) is the National Sports Organisation for all cycling codes in New Zealand including Road, Track, Mountain Bike, BMX, and Schools Cycling. Cycling New Zealand is on a journey to share their story and grow public awareness of Cycling as an exciting and vibrant sport where Kiwi’s succeed.

The CNZ head office is located at the world class National Cycling Centre of Excellence - the Grassroots Trust Velodrome in Cambridge. The High-Performance Programme is run out of the velodrome, and all administration, event, communications, coaching and support staff (FT staff of 36) are located onsite.

CNZ is responsible for the management and development of the sport from the national teams at the elite level, including World Championships, Olympic and Commonwealth Games, through to club level participation.

Role Summary:

As the Lead Women’s Endurance Coach for Cycling New Zealand, you will be responsible for continuing to build a sustainable high performance women’s endurance programme capable of achieving medal success at major events such as the world track cycling championships and the Olympic Games, while also supporting women’s development programmes.

You will be required to work very closely with other lead and development coaches in order to reach agreed upon collective performance outcomes as well as supporting and mentoring other coaches who are in the performance pathway. You will work in collaboration with the High Performance Manager and the High Performance Director to find the best possible service support for their programmes and the athletes within those programmes. This is a key relationship management role which will involve developing and nurturing a close working relationship with High Performance Sport New Zealand.

Ultimately, the Lead Women’s Endurance Coach is responsible for the development of high performing women’s endurance athletes who can perform on and off the track.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Experience coaching in a high performance track and / or endurance cycling programme.
  • Understanding of the key factors required to be successful and a proven track record.
  • Experience creating, developing and leading a successful HP culture within a team as well as understanding the characteristics of effective HP athlete development pathways.
  • Strong team player with outstanding relationship management skills.
  • Proactive leader with the ability to set a clear direction, make decisive decisions, inspire and motivate others as well as having the ability to identify solutions.
  • A professional and personable approach acting with integrity in all dealings and be an honest and open person with insight and an ability to listen to stakeholder views.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, High EQ, authentic with a strong values base.
