He angitūtanga | About the role

As a Community Ranger, you will join a small, highly motivated team who carry out diverse conservation work. Your role in the team will be focused on effectively engaging with permissions holders on public conservation land in the Greymouth district as well as supporting the monitoring programmes in the Hokitika and Buller Districts which spans from Ross in the south to Karamea in the north. You will help deliver the district’s permissions monitoring and compliance programme which will get you out and about meeting people from all walks of life.

In this role, you will:

• Lead delivery of the monitoring and compliance programme through frequent visits to holders of permissions such as mining access arrangements and other concessions such as Grazing, Tourism & Recreation.
• Provide written reports, update the database and undertake follow up actions when required.
• Promote conservation, lift awareness, and educate permission holders on the value of the ecosystems in the Greymouth District.
• Evaluate and provide input in relation to statutory land administration, RMA, and permission applications as required.
• Support other District priorities from time to time.
  
  

This is a fixed-term position for 12 months working 32 hours per week.

As our Ranger, Community you will be partnering with a variety of stakeholders and be involved with the community ensuring compliance of concessions.

We want to hear from you if you have:

• Previous experience working in a compliance and regulatory environment.
• Experience in working with and partnering with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi or business groups.
• Strong data management and technology skills including use of GPS, Digital photography, Drones & GIS.
• The ability to effectively and positively engage with people involved with land use that often conflicts with conservation management.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a proven ability to write accurate, clear and concise reports.
• A ‘can do’ attitude and proven excellent organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing demands, meet deadlines and have a problem-solving approach.
• Valid full drivers’ licence.
• Experience working in the mining industry and/or an ecology background.
• Knowledge of the Western South Island (desirable)

The Ranger, Community position will form part of an energetic and hardworking team comprised of the Supervisor, Senior Ranger and Rangers within the team. You will occasionally work with some contractors and other stakeholders from a variety of groups.
