The purpose of the Senior Planning roles is to support the implementation, enhancement and promotion of the Transport Agency’s strategic planning practice to ensure our strategy is delivered together with external partners within central and local government, both regionally and nationally.

We are looking for someone who has expertise in land use planning and transport planning. You will bring an excellent understanding of the New Zealand planning context and current policy proposals, to complement the existing technical knowledge within the team to contribute to Spatial Planning and other plans, and national policy direction. You will have excellent communication skills and use those to influence and network in a fast paced and complex environment.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Bring

• Experience in strategic, integrated transport and urban planning, growth and development
• An understanding of how transformative lead infrastructure and new transport choices shape communities as well as the importance of effective land-use and transport integration in delivering on a range of economic, social, cultural and environmental outcomes
• Experience in the role of transport in place-making and planning for multi-modal transport choices and accessible transport services
• An understanding of the suite of policy tools and regulation that relate to the transport system and urban development
• The ability to represent the Transport Agency’s views and navigate successfully in a multi-stakeholder process including an understanding of how the public and private sector work in partnership to develop land use and transport outcomes
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• A tertiary qualification in Transport Planning, Engineering or other relevant discipline
