Social Worker
Permanent, full-time role
40 hours per week (flexibility to work outside normal working hours to meet client’s needs as required.)

South Canterbury
Salary in the region of $60-65k per annum depending on your level of experience

About the Role
To provide high-quality, professional, culturally sensitive social work service to children; adolescents; whanau; delivery of psycho-educational individual/group works with children/whanau.
This work will cover a wide range of issues
Family Violence
Family relationships/parenting
child behavior difficulties
Stress, grief & loss
Housing, and budgeting needs
blended families
advocacy, social support, attachment issues
mild-moderate mental health- anxiety

Responsibilities:

  • To engage with children/whanau, building positive/therapeutic relationships that support the change process
  • Ensure that a clear focus is maintained on child wellbeing, safety, belonging, wellbeing, learning, and connection
  • Risk assessment and safety plans; client issues, assessments are identified & documented in a timely manner.
  • Client issues; goals; notes are completed and documented.
  • Files maintained appropriately
  • Community Liaison & External Relationships
  • Develop and maintain close consultation and effective working relationships with key stakeholders, and specialist services relevant to working with adolescents, adults, couples, children, families, and groups.
  • To actively support community development initiatives and events related to services (these may occur inside and outside of working hours)
  • Actively support the development, implementation, and delivery of new practices or services and programmes or groups within their own service area


About You
You will be an empathetic person with a passion for helping children and whanau. Your approach to your work will be with kindness, logic, and above all, the drive to do right by the child.
You must have previous experience working with children and domestic and family violence.
You will also be:
  • a qualified and experienced Social Worker (SWRB registered or eligible for registration)
  • familiar with working in culturally diverse environments
  • proactive and have good time management and computer skills
  • a self-starter who can work independently
  • a keenness to deliver group work
  • interest in delivering a therapeutic approach to the work
  • competent with demonstrating and implementing a range of social work practices e.g. strengths-based, solution-focused and goal-oriented
  • a strong networker with community stakeholders and enjoy developing new professional networks for your client group
